Are we all Gods?
Genesis 1:26 (NIV)
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Reading the above verse, some people have questioned that if God has made us in His image then does that mean we are in essence ‘little Gods’? If this were true, it would also imply that humanity was created in the same class as God. The Bible in no means implies this.
What Genesis is teaching here is that we are made in Gods image/likeness in the sense that we have a rational, moral nature and that we have dominion over creation.
God’s image comprises of the above natures, and we are just a finite/limited reflection of that nature.
This verse has nothing to do with human beings becoming God or being in God’s “class.”
If it were true that human beings are “little gods,” then one would expect them to display qualities that are similar to those known to be true of God.
When the Bible compares the attributes of mankind with that of God, it states that we always ‘fall short of the glory of God’.
Romans 3:23 (NIV)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
In addition, let’s look at the following attributes of God as Compared to man.
we are just a finite/limited reflection of God's nature.
